Storybook Favorites

Let me start by saying that these story books are pretty good and I hope that I can make something as good as them. Out of all the story books that I looked at my top three were Demigod Daycare, The Fairy Godmother Union Strike, and A Meeting of the Gods. These three really stuck out to me. The first thing that grabbed my attention about each of these was their titles.

Lest start with Demigod Daycare. The title of this one is exactly what it is. Its a daycare for the sons and daughters of gods. I really like the idea of all the little kids sitting around listing to stories about their parents. the fount used in this story book really works well with it and give it an old feel.

On to The Fairy Godmother Union Strike. Wow just wow that title as soon as I saw that I knew I had to read it (i'm a sucker for a good title) this is a very creative take on fairy tales. Hannah does a very good job retelling these stories but with out the Fairy Godmothers in them. It made for a very fun to read and they had an "its a wonderful life" feel to them. I also really liked the formatting of this storybook.
Now last but not least A Meeting of the Gods. This title had me a little confused so I looked in to it more. I thought was going to be some story about god sitting around talking but boy was I wrong. As soon as I read the intro I became intrigued. I had never seen stories about gods of different pantheons meeting each other. These stories are fun creative and put a good twist on what we think we know about the god. The only down side to this storybook it the page that it is on is kind of boring.

Over all I really like all these stories and I hope that I can make something that can stand by them.

potential reading in the UnTextbook

OK so to start I just went through the UN-textbook and skimmed over everything.

Here are the stories that stuck out to me (in no particular order)

1-Adam and Eve. This is such a classic story. I was kind of surprised to see it in our reading list but it is something that is important and interesting to me so that's how it made it on my list. I would also love to learn more about there story and really dive in to it.

2-Ramayana. OK so the reason I picked this story might be a little different than most people. Like I said in my introduction I like to play computer games. Well there is this one game called SMITE and it lets you play as different gods and goddesses and Rama is one of the god that you can play as so I thought it would be cool to get to know more about him.

3-The Monkey King Sun Wu Kung. I picked this for a very similar reason as to why I picked Ramayana (ok fine its the same reason). In the game he can transform into different animals and I would like to see if this is true in the stories. I also really like monkeys

4-Apache Tales. I really like native american tales. I have taken a few classes where I got to learn about there culture a little more and one of my favorite parts about it is the roll that the trickster plays. I think this is a very unique thing to native american and I would love to learn more about it.

Introduction and Tech Tip: Embedded YouTube

Hi everyone my name is Nick Jules and I am a super senior. I really like calling it that because it sounds more fun than saying a 5th year and it makes me feel like I am super. Anyways I am majoring in creative media production. (ooo so fancy) not really it just means that i get to play with cameras. I really love creative media production because it lets me tell stories. I am not the best writer so by being able to share stories with a camera is something that i really enjoy. I was born in New Jersey but when I was nine mounts old I moved to Texas(so no i do not have a new jersey accent). I spent the time until I came to OU in Texas so pretty much my entire life has been spent in Texas and I love it there. I plan to move back in December when I graduate.

I am kind of a big nerd. I spend most of my time in front of my computer. Whether it be editing video or playing computer games that's where you can find me. If I am not at my computer I am most likely eating somewhere. I love food. like I really love food. I like eating it, cooking it, and trying new things whit it. I think my love of food comes from my father and grandfather. from a very young age they tough me how to cook and showed me that food is more than just something to eat, its an experience. Along with teaching me to love food they also taught me to be a New England Patriots fan. I know i said that I grew up in Texas but my family is from Boston. I also really like batman. He is defiantly my favorite superhero. Some other fun facts about me are i use to be an RA. I was a summer camp councler at sky ranch. I have a younger sister who just turned 21 and and little brother who was born on September 11 2001, yes that day that everything happened. If you have any questions about me or want to get to know me more feel free to hit up my comment wall.

Storytelling Week 1: The Love of Baking

There once was a man who was a wonderful baker. His name was Tod. Tod baked all kinds of delicious foods. He made everything from breakfast pastries to wedding cakes. Tod was the single best baker in all the land. People would come from miles to try all his tasty treats. When they came they would buy dozens and dozens of all his goods so that they could bring them back to their family. Tod was always nice to his customers, offering them samples and filling custom request. He never had to worry about much because he was the only bakery. others had tried not none could come close to the baking perfection that Tod had. not only were his good tasty they were also reasonably priced.

All was well for Tod until one day he realized that his bakery was in fact the best in the entire world. He thought to him self and came to the realization that if he was indeed the best in the world then he should raise his prices. And he did just that. People kept coming and buying his tasty treats so he kept raising the prices. Along whit the change in prices came a change with Tod.

All this new found money had changed Tod from the friendly baker that every one loved to a money hungry old man that no one wanted anything to do with. One day as Tod was opening his bakery he saw that there were no people waiting in line and all day long no one show up. This happened for weeks and Tod baked nothing. He thought that this would be fine and that it would give him some time to spend his money. Sure enough he did just that he spent his money. He went on trips and bought all kinds of cool thing but something was missing. he was no longer happy. He thought it was the money that was making him happy but really it was the baking. so that night when Tod went to bed he decided to change. he no longer cared about the money he just wanted to bake.

The next day Tod sold everything that he owned except his oven and some dough. He started baking. He baked and baked and baked for three days he did not stop. By the end of the third day he had baked so mush that he had no more room. So he went out in the street and and yelled that he was giving away and his rolls for only two cents each. At first on one believed him. So he kept yelling rolls only two cents each. But still noting. Then he yelled two rolls just two cents. This got peoples attention as it was a very good deal. When they saw that he was really selling his hot and tasty rolls for only a few cents the people knew that he had changed. By the next day Tod had sold all his rolls. Tod had regained his lost customers and he has kept their trust ever since.

Homemade Hot Cross Buns from wikimedia

Author's Note:
this story is based off the old nursery rhyme "Hot-Cross Buns"

 HOT-CROSS Buns!
Hot-cross Buns!
One a penny, two a penny,
Hot-cross Buns!

Hot-cross Buns!
Hot-cross Buns!
If ye have no daughters,
Give them to your sons.
you can find the rhyme in this book this Book: The Project Gutenberg Ebook of The Nursery Rhyme Book
Author: Unknown Editor: Andrew Lang Year Published: 2008 Web Source: The Project Gutenberg
I chose to write this because i always wounder why some one would sell their hot cross buns for only a penny and i thought this would be a good reason.
