Reading Diary A: Russian Folktales

for my reading this week I am reading the Russian Folktales unit. I have chosen to read these all the way and then make my comments at the end. normal i just wright as i read but i wanted to stitch it up.

I chose to read Russian Folktales because i thought it would be interesting and it did not let me down. there were many good stories in this unit like, The Bad Wife. In The Bad Wife there is a man has a wife so bad that demons are afraid of her. the concept to this is just so funny to me. I wounder why this story was written and i do not want to meat the writers wife. Another good story was The Miser. In this story marco is really just a super stingy man who will do what ever it takes to keep his money even after he promised the moujik he would pay him back. the moujik outsmarted him and in the end got half his stuff but marco never ended up paying him. I thought that even after everything he would still not pay. My favorite story from this unit was The Dead Mother.
this story so so  strange and different than anything else i have read in this book. it starts off pretty dark but then ontly gets worse as some one is sneaking into the house. at the end of the story you find out that the mother ( whom is dead) is the one going into the house and feeding the baby but also that the baby is dead. it was pretty spooky.

Extra Reading Diary: Nursery Rhymes

so i might have forgot to do my reading diary part B so i decided to make up for it with he one.

these were my thought while reading the Nursery Rhymes unit.
over all these stories are very... fun? is that the word im looking for?
these stories are crazy. I really dont understand the point of them. ( yes I understand that they are for entertainment) Like who made them up and why. they are so silly. when i think of Nursery Rhymes I think of little kids but there is no way that these are all for little kids or that little kids would understand them.
out of all the types of Nursery Rhymes I think that my favorite were the Accumulative Stories. I really like these because I feel like they represent the troubles that we have to deal with in our life. one things leads to another to another and they just keep building on each other, until one day we fix one problem and everything works its self out. just like the woman and the cat.
while the Accumulative stories were my favorite group of stories my single favorite come from Relics.
"THE girl in the lane, that couldn't speak plain,
Cried, "Gobble, gobble, gobble."
The man on the hill, that couldn't stand still,
Went hobble, hobble, hobble."
this one just made me laugh and for some reason it made me happy and that's why its my favorite

Reading Diary A: Nursery Rhymes

these were my thoughts while reading the Nursery Rhymes unit

man these rhymes are pretty crazy. i feel like they were written for kids but there are so many different types that i am not sure what to think. there were some funny ones like
"I'LL tell you a story
About Jack a Nory, —
And now my story's begun.
I'll tell you another
About Jack his brother, —
And now my story's done." Nursery Rhymes: Tales
what does this even mean?

then there were some insightful ones
"A SUNSHINY shower
Won't last half an hour."

there were confusing ones

"I HAVE a little sister, they call her Peep, Peep;
She wades the waters deep, deep, deep;
She climbs the mountains high, high, high;
Poor little creature she has but one eye.

[A star.]"

there were some violent ones
"HUSH-A-BYE, baby, on the tree top;
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock;
When the bough bends, the cradle will fall;
Down will come baby, bough, cradle, and all."
how is this a good song to sing to a baby tome it sounds like the baby is falling out of a tree to its death.

and then there is my favorite one
"1. I AM a gold lock.
2. I am a gold key.
1. I am a silver lock.
2. I am a silver key.
1. I am a brass lock.
2. I am a brass key.
1. I am a lead lock.
2. I am a lead key.
1. I am a monk lock.
2. I am a monk key!"

Extra Reading Diary:Aesop's Fables (English)

These were my thoughts as i was reading Aesop's Fables (English)
Wolves- I like how the image of the wold has changed.

Aesop's Fables: Dogs- the one about the dog trying to bite his reflections food always makes me laugh. that crocodile wanted the dog to drink be he would not. hahahah i never though i would read about why dogs sniff butts. I is better to just be your self and it is way worse if a trusted person messes up. you should never act out of anger.

Cats and Weasels- its cool that the romans would tell stories about the weasels and mice instead of the cat. its just another sly and tricky animal.

Birds- the cock and the Pearl I really like this story even though it is really short i still feel like it has a many different lessons in it.
the first being one mans trash is another mans treasure. when the cock finds the pearl it is just trash to him yet to anyone who knew it most definitely would have been treasure. the other thing i think this shows is to think about what you have. If he would have asked about he would have been able to get all the food that he wished but now he is left with nothing. The Crow and the Pitcher is a true story i have actually seen a crow do this.

Frogs- that would be bad if there was more than one son. it would be to hot to do anything im with the frogs on this one.

Reading Diary B: Beowulf

these were my thought while reading Beowulf
I really enjoyed the story of Beowulf. the reason I chose to read this unit was because i had read it my last semester of high school so i though it would be fitting to read it my last semester here at OU. this story or i guess i should call it an epic is just packed with so much stuff. like in Grendel Attacks, when Grendel is described walking in and eating someone i just get chills. another part that i really like was in Seeking Grendel's Mother, when he sinks down down down. i think this is a very important part of the epic because it show that Beowulf is superhuman. that is one of the thing he has to do to make this an epic so with out that this would just be a story. there is one thing about Beowulf that makes me upset and that is the fact that he dies. I understand that at some point he has to die but i just hate seeing our hero die in Battle with the Dragon. Beowulf's charter is something that i admire throughout the epic. he is a good leader. A fantastic warrior and true to him self. even though he dies I like that he gives every thing to the one person who was fateful and stayed by his side. over all I really liked reading this epic even though i had already read it before. Oh i almost forgot the part where he rips off his arm is so brutal!

Reading Diary A: Beowulf

these were my thoughts while reading Beowulf

King Hygelac of Geatsland- they live in a scary world fild with all kinds of evil good thing they are so strong.
The Young Beowulf- it must be hard for him because all he wants to do is prove him self but he has not yet got the chance
The Wanderer's Song- Grendel is a bad monster. attacking a hall for 12 years is a long time who will kill him *couch cough* Beowulf.
 Beowulf's Resolve- he is final able to start getting the respect that he deserves
Beowulf's Journey- while not much happens at this part the descriptions are just so good that i can just see them running towards the ship.
Beowulf Lands in Daneland- wow that must have been a hard trip. i am surprised that nothing attacked their ship.
Beowulf Comes to Heorot- oh man this place is really run down. i guess the 12 years of attacks really took a tole on the place. its good that they welcomed and remembered Beowulf.
 The Words of Unferth- Unferth has no faith in Beowulf. here was have a guy who wants to help but is being mocked for something that happened when he was a child.
The Words of Beowulf- Beowulf really put that guy in his place. no one should call some one out like that.

I am really excited to read part two.
